The RWTH Aachen University offers 20 places for refugees interested in studying at the university in a preparatory language course (VBK I) in attendance format.

Course period: expected from October 12, 2026, to January 29, 2027

Class times:
Monday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Thursday: 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: This is an in-person course. The course takes place at the Language Center of RWTH Aachen University.

Target group: Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Recognized refugee status in Germany or persons currently in the asylum process,

  • Possession of a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) allowing you to study at a German university,

  • Proof of current German language skills at a completed B1 level.

With regular attendance and corresponding learning progress, participants have the opportunity to continue the course at B2/C1 level in the summer semester 2025.

  • Documents proving your eligibility to study at a German university (copies of school certificates or academic transcripts in the original language and in German or English translation)

  • Letter of motivation: Please explain in one page why you are applying for the language course.

  • Proof of identity (passport or passport substitute)

  • Copy of both sides of your residence permit, including a copy of your current address in Germany

  • Proof of your current German language skills at a completed B1 level
